How to Play Thermometers Puzzle

Thermometers is a captivating logic grid puzzle that challenges your deduction skills. Unlike Sudoku, it relies on visual filling rules. Here is your complete guide to mastering this brain teaser.

Objective of the Game

The goal is to fill the thermometers with mercury so that the total number of filled cells in each row and column matches the numbers indicated on the sides of the grid.

Core Rules

  • The Bulb Rule: Every thermometer starts filling from the circular bulb.
  • No Gaps Allowed: You cannot fill the top part of a thermometer without filling all segments connecting to the bulb.
  • Grid Logic: Each row and column has a number that tells you how many cells must be filled in that line.

Controls

Click or Tap any cell on a thermometer. The mercury will automatically rise to that level (filling all cells closer to the bulb). Click an already filled cell to lower the mercury level.

Strategy & Winning Tips

Don't guess! Thermometers is a game of pure logic. Use these strategies to solve even the hardest 10x10 grids:

1. Start with Extremes (0s and Max)

Look for rows or columns marked with 0. You can immediately mark every cell in that line as empty. Conversely, if a line number equals the grid size, fill the entire line instantly.

2. The "Forced Fill" Technique

Always check if filling a cell would force a row or column to overflow. Overflow lines are contradictions you can use to backtrack.

3. Cross-Referencing

Solving one line constrains intersecting lines. Keep updating what each row/column can still contain.
