Battleships Game Introduction

Overview

Battleships is a deduction puzzle where you locate all ships on the grid by combining row and column clues with the required fleet lengths.

Rules

• Ships are straight horizontal or vertical lines; they never bend.
• Ships cannot touch each other, including diagonal contact.
• Row and column numbers show how many ship cells must appear in that line.
• The fleet legend defines exactly how many ships of each length must exist.

Controls

• Use Rotate, Ship, Water, and Blank to mark cells.
• Keyboard shortcuts: H Hint, C Check, U Undo, R Restart, N New Puzzle.
• Tap or drag on mobile to paint cells quickly.

Scoring

This version tracks completion by puzzle state and move count. Use fewer moves and less time for cleaner solves. Press Done to validate the full board and trigger the victory modal.

Tips

• Start with rows or columns that are already full or nearly full by clue count.
• When a line reaches its clue number, all remaining cells there must be water.
• After placing ship cells, mark diagonals as water to avoid illegal touching ships.
• Use Check before Hint to spot contradictions early.

Can ships touch diagonally? No, diagonal touching is always illegal.

What if Hint seems stuck? Hint first fixes wrong marks, then applies forced moves until the puzzle is solvable.
