Game Introduction

overview

Number Fog is a logic deduction puzzle inspired by Minesweeper. Instead of mines, cells hide numbers. Clue cells display the sum of all adjacent hidden numbers. Use logic to deduce every hidden value.

rules

  • The grid contains fog cells (hidden numbers) and clue cells (visible sums).
  • Each clue shows the sum of hidden numbers in all 8 adjacent cells.
  • Hidden numbers range from 1 to the max value for the difficulty level.
  • Every puzzle has exactly one unique solution.
  • Fill in all fog cells correctly to win.

controls

  • Click/tap a fog cell to select it (highlighted border).
  • Use the on-screen number pad or keyboard (1-9) to enter a number.
  • Press 0, Backspace, or Delete to erase a placed number.
  • Use Check to validate all placed numbers.
  • Use Hint to reveal one correct number.

scoring

Solve faster with fewer moves and hints for a better score. Each hint used reduces your final rating. The timer tracks your solve speed. Try to complete puzzles without using Check or Hint for the best experience.

tips

  • Start with clues that have only one adjacent fog cell — the answer is immediate.
  • Look for clue cells surrounded by mostly solved fog cells to narrow possibilities.
  • Use elimination: if a clue's remaining sum can only be filled one way, that's your answer.
  • Corner and edge cells have fewer neighbors, making them easier starting points.

faq

How do clue numbers work?

Each clue cell shows the total sum of all hidden numbers in its 8 neighboring cells (up, down, left, right, and 4 diagonals).

What range of numbers can be hidden?

It depends on difficulty: Easy uses 1-3, Normal uses 1-5, Hard uses 1-7. The range is shown in the mode description.

Can the same number appear multiple times?

Yes. Unlike Sudoku, there is no uniqueness constraint on numbers. The same value can appear in multiple fog cells.
