The Double Cross Cage Puzzle from Tea-Sip is a wooden interlocking brain teaser built from 24 identical laser-cut cross pieces. There is no key piece and no hidden trick: every cross has a center through-hole and four symmetrical arms, and the finished cage holds together by geometry alone. You take it apart, then rebuild it — and the rebuild is the real puzzle.

How It Plays
Disassembly starts with observation, not muscle. Turn the cage until you find two matching structures facing the same direction, grip both ends, and apply gentle outward pressure. The pieces slide apart cleanly when you have the right pair, and refuse to move when you don’t. Brute force loses every time — that resistance is the puzzle telling you to look again.
Reassembly is where most people stall. The solution builds in three stages: a first frame of twelve pieces arranged in matching orientations, a second frame of eight pieces set in opposing directions, and a final four pieces that lock the whole structure together. The aha moment comes at the end, when the loose lattice suddenly goes rigid as the last crosses seat home and a pile of identical parts becomes one solid cage.
Who It’s For
A strong pick for wooden-puzzle collectors who want a build that depends on structure rather than a trick piece, and a pointed gift for the coworker who insists they are good at puzzles. Because the solve rewards patience over force, it also works as a slow, screen-free decompression ritual: dismantle it on a stressful afternoon, rebuild it when your head clears.
FAQ
Are all 24 pieces really identical?
Yes. Every piece is the same four-way symmetrical cross with a through-hole at its center. There is no key piece and no hidden mechanism — the entire challenge is in how the identical crosses interlock.
How do I take it apart without breaking it?
Find matching structures facing the same direction, hold both ends, and pull gently outward. Correctly paired pieces separate under light pressure. If something will not move, that pairing is wrong — reposition and try another pair instead of forcing it.
What if I get stuck reassembling it?
Follow the three stages Tea-Sip outlines above: build the twelve-piece frame in matching orientations, add the eight-piece frame in opposing directions, then insert the final four locking pieces. If a stage will not close, back up one stage rather than pushing harder.
Can it be reset and solved again?
Yes. Dismantling and rebuilding the cage is the entire play cycle, so it resets completely every time. Once you know the twelve-eight-four sequence, the replay challenge shifts to speed — or to handing it to someone else unsolved.

This is legitimately the coolest thing on my desk right now. I work in a pretty stressful job and when I need a mental break I’ll take it apart and reassemble it. It’s become like… therapeutic? The whole ‘force vs harmony’ thing really resonates. Quality is A+, pieces fit perfectly, no splinters or rough edges. Only reason not 5 stars is it’s smaller than I expected from the photos – still awesome though!

Received this yesterday and I’m obsessed. The description talking about infant’s grip and harmony wasn’t kidding – you really do need patience and a gentle touch. I’ve been forcing puzzles my whole life and this one taught me to slow down. Plus it looks gorgeous on the coffee table. Everyone who visits asks about it. Already bought another one for my dad’s birthday.

Got this as a gift for my brother who’s always doing sudoku and escape rooms. He LOVED it. Took him about a week of on-and-off trying before he figured it out. The whole ‘ancient wisdom’ thing in the description isn’t just marketing fluff – there really is something meditative about working with these pieces. Quality is solid, packaging was beautiful. Def recommend for puzzle people.

Beautiful puzzle. Took me about 45 minutes to solve on my first attempt after disassembly. The geometry is fascinating and the craftsmanship is excellent – you can tell each piece was precisely cut. I appreciate that it’s not just brute force; you really do need to think about the spatial relationships. My wife thinks I’m crazy for spending this much on ‘sticks’ but she doesn’t understand the satisfaction haha. 10/10 would buy again.

idk maybe im just dumb but i cannot figure this out lol. had it for 3 weeks now and i can take it apart fine but putting it back together?? impossible. the pieces are nice quality and everything but im starting to think this is beyond my skill level. might just keep it as desk decoration at this point 😅

Honestly this thing kicked my butt for like 2 hours but once I got it… man that feeling was amazing. The wood quality is really nice, smooth finish. My only complaint is I wish it came with a little stand or something to display it when assembled because it looks sick just sitting on my desk. Worth it tho 👍

Wood smells amazing when you open the box! The puzzle itself is hard but not impossible. I solved it in one sitting (took maybe an hour?) following the logic of the piece orientations. My cat keeps trying to steal the pieces though so I have to put it away when I’m done playing with it lol. Good quality for the price imo

Not sure what all the hype is about tbh. Yeah its a nice puzzle and the wood is good quality but for this price I expected something… more? Maybe instructions or a storage box? It arrived just wrapped in bubble wrap inside a plain cardboard box. Puzzle itself is fine but feels overpriced for what you get. Solved it in 30 mins so not exactly a long-lasting challenge either.
